Education
The Albuquerque Public Schools (APS) district is one of the largest in the United States, educating over 87,000 students. There are several choices for residents at all levels of schooling. Higher education opportunities are abundant: Central New Mexico Community College, University of New Mexico, The Art Center Design College, ITT Technical Institute, National American University and Trinity Southwest University are all in Albuquerque. There are also colleges in the suburb of Rio Rancho and in Santa Fe.
Recreation
Albuquerque is a well-placed city for natural attractions, with the Sandia Mountains to the east and the Rio Grande cutting through the city from north to south. Residents can go to the Sandia Mountains for organized rock climbing at all skill levels. Albuquerque has lots of museums and shops as well as attractions. The Albuquerque Biological Park has an aquarium, a botanic garden, a zoo and a fishing lake. To get a feel for the local culture, residents can pass through Old Town Albuquerque, lined with adobe buildings. Residents of Albuquerque are in close proximity to the annual New Mexico State Fair, taking place there every year in the fall. They will take pride in the town being home to the Albuquerque International Balloon Fiesta, the world’s largest hot air balloon gathering, which has had 1,000 balloons take off simultaneously. The city is near the Sandia Peak Tramway, the world’s longest passenger aerial tramway. Residents cheer for local sports teams like the University of New Mexico Lobos, the NBA D-League Albuquerque Thunderbirds, and the indoor football team the New Mexico Wildcats, now playing its games in Rio Rancho. Albuquerque also has various venues at which to enjoy the local performing arts and offers several casinos, making for an interesting nightlife.
