Education For a Lifetime!
Students attend school through the Rio Rancho public schools. There are multiple choices at all levels in Rio Rancho. Because of the rapid growth, Rio Rancho is revamping the high school system and V. Sue Cleveland High School is expected to open in August of 2009.
The city is also planning a University of New Mexico West campus, as well as a Central New Mexico Community College campus. There are several current higher learning options in the area. National American University, New Mexico Highlands University and San Juan College can all be found in Rio Rancho, while the University of New Mexico and ITT Technical Institute are located in nearby Albuquerque.
Recreation
Rio Rancho enjoys the proximity to New Mexico's finest National and State Parks. Those interested in exploring nature in central New Mexico can go mountain biking on nearby bike trails or hunting and fishing at lakes about an hour or two away from Rio Rancho. Within an hour drive, you experience the Jemez Mountains with historical Jemez Pueblo. Continue on a longer day trip to Los Alamos and Santa Fe and return via Interstate I-25. Cuba, New Mexico, and the Continental Divide are within a two hour drive, ponderosa pine, wildlife, streams, and outstanding camping facilities. The Jemez Mountains, northwest of Rio Rancho, are a hot-spot for hikers. Spectacular views for the camera buff - make sure you have enough photograph storage! You'll need it!
A central attraction of Rio Rancho is the expanded downtown city center, which has recently acquired a new city hall and the Santa Ana Star Center, an 8,000-seat multipurpose arena. The minor-league ice hockey team (the New Mexico Scorpions) play at Santa Ana Star Center, having relocated to Rio Rancho from Albuquerque in 2006.
The arena is also the playing grounds for the New Mexico Wildcats, an indoor football team. Those who would rather participate in activities can go ice skating at Blades Ice Arena or skateboarding at Rio Rancho Sports Complex.
Residents can find excitement at three local Indian casinos, the Santa Ana Star Casino, Casino Sandia and San Felipe’s Casino Hollywood. |
